Let’s think about what a day a couple of years from now could be like at work. You sign in, you don’t check Slack, you don’t initiate Notion, and you don’t shuffle through your Trello board. Are you wondering how this is possible?
Well, it’s possible when your personal agents handle everything. They are negotiating handoffs, flagging important things, and reprioritizing tasks based on context and needs. In fact, they are doing it while you sleep and are department-agnostic. Are you intrigued now?
If you are, let us introduce you to your AI Agent, set to debut soon, thanks to the Microsoft Windows 2030 vision!
AI Agents can run all the tedious or mundane aspects of the business. Now you can focus on what’s important to you and your business. So, let us welcome you to the age of agentic AI Operating System.
Microsoft recently published a new video, dubbed “Windows 2030 vision.” In the video, Microsoft’s future version was highlighted. The episode features the Corporate Vice President of Enterprise, David Weston, who referenced potentially huge changes in the wake of AI:
“…the world of mousing and keyboarding around will feel as alien as it does to Gen Z (using) MS-DOS.” He also adds:
“I truly believe the future version of Windows and other Microsoft operating systems will interact in a multimodal way. The computer will be able to see what we see, hear what we hear, and we can talk to it and ask it to do much more sophisticated things.”
Microsoft Windows 2030 vision wants to transform Windows into an AI-driven platform from just an OS with AI features. They want to envision the Windows OS with AI as a central orchestrator. Microsoft has already started working on a prototype code that will cause a paradigm shift. So, agentic AI OS isn’t just a concept!
The company is building upon Copilot Vision, which has currently expanded to offer total desktop visibility on browser windows and applications.
Firstly, what is agentic AI?
In simple words, it’s an AI system that can achieve a particular objective with limited supervision. It consists of machine learning models that imitate human decision-making to resolve problems. You can also think of these models as AI agents. And in a system, there can be many! Each agent has one subtask that they need to accomplish. The AI orchestration coordinates its efforts.
Conventional AI models function within predefined limitations. They need human intervention. Meanwhile, agentic AI displays adaptability, autonomy, and goal-driven behavior. It can reduce human-computer interaction by 2030! These AI models have agency (thus, the name “agentic”). They can act purposefully and independently.
However, don’t confuse agentic AI OS as a productivity tool. It’s a paradigm shift in work initiation, execution, and coordination. Consider it like a living system of AI agents that work beside a human, fluent in what they like, their vocation, and their strengths. This singular agent isn’t alone; it’s connected to other agents in the team. And hovering over them is a meta-agent, who’s orchestrating joint effort like a conductor of an orchestra with individual performers.
Therefore, agentic AI isn’t AI within the workplace. It’s not a tool, but it’s the workplace itself turning intelligent.
The advent of virtual concierges is ushering in a new guest experience. Agentic AI solutions can turn it up a notch.
Agentic AI can support booking, optimize check-ins, resolve complaints, and personalize offers and opportunities. The main benefit is how it accelerates guest satisfaction due to quicker response times.
AI in recommendation engines isn’t new, but agentic AI performs differently. They can offer more personalized shopping experiences. They can change strategies on their own, based on mood shifts in consumers, time of the year, or inventory alterations. All of these can happen with no human supervision. The data collected will also help marketers refine their promotional strategies.
AI is already making strides in healthcare and life sciences. On top of that, personalization, precision, and speed are the backbone of agentic AI. Therefore, it has great potential to change the life sciences and healthcare sector. Let us explain this further:
Banking and Finance
The finance and banking sector can benefit extensively from agentic AI. It can enhance efficiency, customer experiences, and security. Other benefits can include:
Transportation and Travel
AI has made incredible strides in the travel industry to enhance user experiences. Here’s how it can improve even further:
Challenges of Agentic AI
Microsoft Windows 2030 vision has an ambitious timeline. That’s why industry experts note massive hurdles along the way. Here are some of the wider concerns:
Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, has previously said that AI “will fundamentally change what an operating system is, what a UI looks like, and how application interaction goes.” This shows the company is committed to innovating AI. Whether users will embrace such a drastic change is contested, even when the company desires to position itself as the leader of the AI-computing revolution.
Agentic AI is a complete overhaul of how we work. Frankly, it can have an immense effect only if the challenges are addressed and users adopt it. If every team member is empowered with personal agents, project management can become invisible, ambient, and dynamic!
But the transition won’t occur overnight. It might slowly creep in, carefully nestling itself in our Windows OS! We can’t wait to see how Microsoft evolves the very definition of collaboration. In the meantime, if you have views on AI, send us your thoughts on Write For Us Technology Blogs!
An agentic AI operating system is a kind of AI system that can perceive its environment and reason about the present state. It can also take actions to accomplish particular objectives or goals. Agentic AI systems are designed to be autonomous, meaning they can operate independently without human intervention and can adapt to evolving situations.
Microsoft’s Vice President David Weston predicted that keyboards and mice will become obsolete by 2030. Weston states that the way we interact with computers will shift dramatically, with AI and voice interactions taking center stage.
However, the idea of ditching keyboard and mice might seem futuristic, the challenges of adopting new interfaces also exist. So, it’s safe to say that only time can tell whether Weston’s predictions will materialize.
Microsoft envisions a future where users with interact with Windows more intuitively and naturally, leveraging advanced AI and multimodal technologies.
Agentic AI technology is not available, but work is in process.
While Agentic AI is expected to be an important feature in Windows 12, Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the release date for Windows 12
